NOTE: A Thomas GRAY was buried 14 Apr 1796 in Hill Deverill, but no mention of age or relationship, so this could possibly our Thomas GRAY born in 1786, though it could also be an old patriarch or any other GRAY person in town. Also, a Jane GRAY was buried 17 Feb 1799.

3. Court of Archdeacon of Sarum
4. Court of Archdeacon of Wiltshire (these last two not so important)1. Checked index to #1, FHL 1,702,744:16 in entirety. Did not find any James Gray/Grey earlier or later than this man. Check this parish out a little bit better.

-- Checked birth records for Fonthill Gifford. Found some TURNER deaths in this parish; they could've moved here when she was younger. Try to piece back together. Find these same people in surrounding area in the christening and marriage stages.

IDEAS:
-- Corston parish records, SRO, Taunton, Somerset. This person's last name could possibly Seldon/Selden/Sildon. The first time the name comes into the family as middle name in this person's child's (Flower) child, Mary Ann Sildon SALMON (born 1817), and continues down until the present time on certain lines. This middle name could be a last name, especially from a maternal line. Mary Ann's paternal grandparents' names are SALMON and DANCY. Her maternal grandfather is THOMAS, but maternal grandmother's (this person), surname unknown. It is highly likely that either this person's name could be SELDEN or that it be a surname further back on her lines.-- Surname Frequency Check: Check Keynsham and Bath for SELDENs. Now (12/97) in process of checking IGI and doing surname frequency search for England (especially Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Dorset, and Devon) for this name. Interstingly, several entries appear in Bath in independent church records. Here are the results:

Dear Deanna,
Since we are nearing Father's Day, I felt impressed to tell you a little bit about your father. I realize you were very young when he was separated from your family and might not be familiar with what a special person he was.
Stan sold coal for the coalyard that my mother managed on 17th South and 1st West. He stayed in the scale room in our home. My two brothers and sister and I grew up with Stan living with us and he was like a second father to us. Stan spoke of his family and children very often especially you. In fact, he spoke so often of you, that I felt like I knew you. Whether they knew it or not, he loved all his children very much, but it was obvious that you were his favorite even though he tried not to show it.
All of my family had fond memories of Stan. He was someone everybody liked. He didn't have an enemy in the world. He smiled and laughed a lot. I never heard him say anything bad about anybody. Even though he was divorced from your mother, he never hd anything negative to say about her. Stan was a super salesman and could sell anything to anybody and usually did. His customers looked forward to him coming out to get their order. When my mother would call the customers to see what coal they would need for the winter, they would tell her they would wait for Stan to come out and see them.
There was never anyone who enjoyed and appreciate nature more than Stan. He would point out beautiful and unusual parts of the scenery. He acknowledged the hand of God in all the beauty of nature. He would take our family to see the Christmas lights and he always knew the best places to go. One of his favorite pastime was to drive up in the mountains and se the blossoms coming out in the trees or the leaves turning colors in the fall.
Stan loved good food and dabbled in cooking. He was experimenting with potato flour before Spudnuts even came up with the idea. He made the best ice cream and he loved fried chicken and tapioca pudding. He was one of the first customers of Kentucky Fried Chicken on 39th South and State. He took our whole family there to try it out.
Stan played Santa Claus a couple of years for the Christmas party and he made the perfect Santa Claus because it was just like his personality, happy & jolly, and he loved kids. And they loved him too. He used to put us on his lap and sing silly little songs to us. He had little saying he would say like "We're here because we're here,"
Stan was a very special person and if you notice any of these special traits I have mentioned in one of your children or grandchildren they probably inherited them from him. I hope they realize how lucky they are to have such a special grandfather. He was loved by a lot of people and I am proud to say that all of my 7 grandchildren are descendants from him, and when I see how kind and gentle they are, I thank Stan.
Sincerely,
Ilona Kingston"
